Villa Dune
The project
In the dunes of the Belgian coast, a timber holiday house stands on stilts so that the sand and marram grass can keep living beneath it. Large openings frame the sea on one side and the dunes on the other.

Above the dune, not on it
The house rests on fourteen timber stilts. The sand stays permeable, plants grow back underneath and the wind passes freely.
Letting the landscape through
We kept the footprint to the bare minimum: a compact platform, rooms that all open towards the horizon, and a light structure that could one day be taken down without leaving a trace in the dune.
Atmosphere
Wind, salt and low light
The untreated timber will silver over the years, like the windbreaks on the beach. The openings follow the path of the winter sun.
